kao kao

"kao" has different meanings depending on the tone of your voice and the context. Tones are typically illustrated this way:

^ falling tone         
˅ rising tone
ˊ  high tone
ˋ  low tone

Notice the slight difference in spellings in the Thai which indicate different tones. The word for rice is a very important Thai word which can also be used for 'food' in general.
kȃo    ข้าว       rice
kȃo     เข้า       to enter
kǎo     ขาว       white
káo     เขว        he/she/they
kào     าว      news
